The truest love I’ve ever seen, and it ended centuries ago – yet still lives on today.
The Taj Mahal was built by the king in honor of his wife, whom he loved dearly. Her dying wish was for her husband to leave behind a monument to remind the world of how special and rare true love is.
Six months after her death, he began building the Taj. It took 22,000 workers and 22 years to finish the construction. The beautiful craftsmanship of the marble inlay (a family tradition and dying art form) was absolutely exquisite.
Stepping onto the grounds was really a special experience. I got goose bumps looking at the white glowing structure; you could feel the love and integrity of their relationship in the exquisite detail that went into every inch of the monument.
Taj Mahal (which is what the king called his wife meaning ‘light of the palace’) never saw the finished masterpiece, but if she did she would definitely know that her King loved and treasured her. Taj Mahal stayed by her king everywhere he went, including the battle grounds.
My eyes teared up as I learned of their eternal connection to each other. Love trumps everything!! When you look at how much one can give and how much love there is to share, it really creates new possibilities and hope.
